Your Liberal Democratic Candidate, Stewart Stone.
About Stewart.
Stewart Stone, a local resident, was selected to fight the Rottingdean by-election caused by the sudden resignation of Conservative, Jo Miller. Stewart was brought up in Brighton and went to Varndean School. After graduating he moved to London and then Beaconsfeld until October 2020, when he moved back to Brighton. He now lives in the ward. His background is in Finance, HR and Recruitment Consultancy, He stood as a candidate for the Liberal Democrats in the 2019 General Election.
Stewart commented,
"I relish the chance to fight for my fellow residents of Rottingdean and West Saltdean. This far-flung outpost of Brighton and Hove City Council has been neglected for too long. Our rubbish remains uncollected and our roads and footpaths unmaintained. The Greens and Labour seem to alternate administrations, each ruling with the tacit support of the other. Meanwhile, where are the Tories? … They represent the national Government who are failing the country in so many ways in these difficult times. Our City needs a strong liberal and democratic voice. Our councillors need to be held to account. I aim to be that voice."
Rottingdean Coastal Ward stretches from Brighton Marina through to Saltdean. It is one of the most magnificent wards for views of the countryside and the sea. It counts amongst its former residents one of the UK's most famous writers, Rudyard Kipling, whose house sits close to the renown Pond in the village of Rottingdean. Saltdean Lido is an iconic masterpiece of architecture in the Art Deco style and was listed as Grade II* status by English Heritage as being of great historical interest. The village of Ovingdean nestles in the Ovingdean valley and can be approached from the coastal road by passing St. Dunstan's, described by Historical England as a 'Tour de Force of Modernism Architecture. Overlooking the Brighton Marina is one of the UK's most famous schools 'Roedean', a school of international renown. To live in this ward is to be rich in the history of, not just Brighton but also the United Kingdom, and with the Marina a vista in the attractions of life by the sea.
