Across the Atlantic, Trump and his cronies are doing their very best to rewrite the definition of transgender out of existence. An agenda of social cleansing that feeds into his administration's insular and antagonistic narrative. We may like to think that Trump's views are in isolation, that his fear of difference does not seep to our shores, but it does.

25,000 demonstrated against Brexit in March 2017; 50,000 in September and over 100,000 in June 2018. As the Tory Government manages our exit from the European Union with all the grace of a wounded rhino backing out of a beach hut, 700,000 people from all over the UK descended on London in October to demand a vote on the final Brexit deal that will include an option to remain in the EU. The Leader of the Opposition, Jeremy Corbyn, was notably absent and so was our Kemptown MP, Lloyd Russell-Moyle.

Some of you may have seen links to my recent Blog posts in the GLD Facebook page, but when we discussed this recently at the GLD exec, it was suggested it may be appropriate to briefly make the link here in a short signpost article in case others may wish to access them. There are three linked posts looking at Climate change and environmental issues and relating them to our current (and possible new?!) relationship with the EU. They have all been in July, so here is the link to all three. Enjoy...

I am certain that many Britons are as appalled as I am about the horrific scenes coming out of Syria.

The use of chemical weapons is barbaric. It is a crime against humanity and it is a clear violation of international law.

The Liberal Democrats are an internationalist, outward-looking party - and part of that is being willing to play our part in upholding international law.

Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has renewed his call for Theresa May to return from holiday to take charge of the worsening international crisis surrounding Syria, rather than leaving the accident-prone Boris Johnson to negotiate with allies he has previously insulted.

    Tim Farron said:
"Boris Johnson is reportedly struggling to persuade countries such as Germany, France and Italy to agree to sanctions on Russia. The arguments are complex. But the difficulties the Foreign Secretary is experiencing should underline to this Conservative Brexit government the importance of working with our European partners rather than lecturing and insulting them.

"It is time Theresa May returned to Downing Street to take charge, rather than allowing the court jester to become the crown prince.

"Sanctions are an important way of putting pressure on Russia, but they should not distract us from the urgent humanitarian need to protect large numbers of innocent people threatened with death in this barbarous, brutal civil war. For this we must continue to work for a united response, from the G7 and regional powers."

Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has renewed calls on Theresa May not to abandon child refugees by scrapping the Dubs scheme.

This comes as pressure mounts on the Prime Minister over the decision, which was criticised in an open letter from over 200 high-profile celebrities and campaigners and by the Archbishop of Canterbury who called it "deeply unjust."

Tim Farron writes to Theresa May to secure renewed commitment to taking 3000 unaccompanied child refugees

    Dear Theresa,

Yesterday during your statement on the Informal European Council I asked you if you would guarantee that your Government would continue to take unaccompanied child refugees from Europe under the Dubs scheme (section 67 of the Immigration Act 2016). Your failure to give this reassurance in your response yesterday was concerning and I hope that in your response to this letter you can clarify the Government's position on the Dubs scheme.

Theresa May has been urged not to "roll out the red carpet" for Donald Trump after he was invited to Britain on a State visit.

As the government indicated it would ignore a huge petition calling for Mrs May to withdraw her invitation to Mr Trump, Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron said: "The government is ignoring millions of ordinary British people and their revulsion that Donald Trump will receive the red carpet treatment.
