The Golsmid May 2023 Local Election Candidates

The Goldsmid Liberal Democrat team for the 2023 Brighton and Hove local elections is Paul Chandler, Andrew England and Owen Sharp.

Andrew England

Andrew England East Brighton By ElectionAndrew is a retired chemistry teacher who has lived in Goldsmid ward for thirty years. He is married to Paula and they have three school-aged children - José, Ignacia and Belén, who all play football for Hollingbury Hawks, so he is, a football fan. Andrew is a keen cricket supporter and was the organiser for Sussex girls' cricket teams for ten years as well as being a Junior England selector.

Andrew's priorities on the council are to improve school facilities, the local environment, parks, children's playgrounds, public conveniences and to repair dangerous pavements.

Paul Chandler

Paul Chandler

Paul is a founder member of the Liberal Democrats. He has stood for Parliament on several occasions, has had experience as a local councillor for over ten years and as a governor of several schools.

Paul has run his own travel agency business and is currently involved in a property venture. He has also worked as a volunteer at the Citizen's Advice Bureau and in one of the city's soup kitchens. Paul is currently a Director of the Brighton and Hove Community Land Trust.

Have you ever thought about how easy you make it for the postie to deliver your mail? Answer the following questions and you may win our fantastic Goldsmid Letterbox of the year competition. Residences with external letterboxes may enter, as may blocks of flats with letterboxes in the entrance hall and a trades button to get into the building, provided that the button works all day.

1 Does your letterbox open horizontally, rather than vertically? Y/N

2 Is your letterbox slot at least 8 inches/20 cm wide? Y/N

3 Do you push the flap to post letters, rather than pull it? Y/N

4 Do you have to climb up or go down fewer than three steps to get from the pavement to your letterbox? Y/N

5 Is your letterbox less than 3 metres from the pavement? Y/N

6 Is your letterbox between 2 feet/60 cm and 4 feet/120 cm from the ground? Y/N

7 Does mail posted through your letter box go straight through, rather than it needing pushing through hairy obstacles or additional flaps/ Y/N

8 Do you receive your mail (including leaflets) in excellent condition rather than being scrunched up? Y/N

9 Does the flap on your letterbox open easily and close fully after letters have been posted through it? Y/N

10 If you own (or did own) a Pit Bull terrier, Bengal tiger or Siberian hamster with a tendency to bite, is it (or would it be) kept well away from the letterbox? Y/N

11 Do you live in Goldsmid ward? Y/N
