Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats

Brunswick and Adelaide

Stephen Lloyd with candidates Christian Chadwick & Duncan Moore and volunteers Brunswick & Adelaide

L-R: Duncan Moore, Stephen Lloyd MP, Christian Chadwick

Your local Lib Dem Focus team are Christian Chadwick and Duncan Moore. Email them on ba@liberalbrighton.org.

Christian moved to Brighton & Hove in 2011 and works as a Children's Pharmacist at the Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital. One of his pastimes in the community is playing the euphonium with Brighton & Hove City Brass. You are most likely to see him out and about in Hove on a run to keep fit, or out at a local pub quiz with friends. Chat to Christian on Twitter @CLibDem.

Duncan has lived in Brunswick since 2014 and in Hove since 2012 when he came to the city for a PhD on motor neurone disease at the University of Sussex. Since finishing his degree, Duncan has worked locally as a tutor and as a research assistant. In his spare time he enjoys cooking, making cocktails and learning German Christian Chadwick (aber langsam!). Chat to Duncan on Twitter @DuncanMSussex.

Goldsmid Lib Dem Team - Orla May, Andrew England and Laura Mullin

L-R: Orla May, Andrew England, Laura Mullin

Your local Lib Dem Focus team are Orla May, Andrew England, and Laura Mullin.

Andrew England is a chemistry teacher who has lived in Goldsmid ward for thirty years. He is married to Paula and they have three school aged children - Jose, Ignacia and Belen. Andrew's priorities on the council are to improve school facilities, the local environment, parks, children's playgrounds, public conveniences and to repair dangerous pavements.

Orla May was born in Brighton & Hove and lives in Goldsmid ward. Orla is passionate about the European Union and has been campaigning for a people's vote. With a background in economics, Orla works in financial regulation and is a trustee of local money advice charity St Luke's Advice Service.

Laura Mullin has worked in the space sector for many years. After a time living in France and Germany, she settled here in 2015 with her partner Bernard. Laura is supporting the local lib dem campaign for affordable housing. This would continue to be a priority for Laura on the council, along with supporting local businesses.

All three are standing to represent Goldsmid Ward in the Brighton & Hove City Council elections on 2nd May 2019. If there's an issue you'd like to raise, please get in touch. Email goldsmid@liberalbrighton.org or tweet @GoldsmidLibDems

(West Hill, Upper Lewes Road, Seven Dials, Round Hill, Preston Circus, North Laine, New England Quarter areas)

Rob Heale

Your local Lib Dem Focus team is led by Rob Heale, who lives in the ward. Rob has lived in the Brighton and Hove area for more than 35 years and has been actively involved with a number of community organisations.

He is a former N.H.S. Rehabilitation Worker and has also worked for community groups and Housing Associations. Currently, he is a member of organisations as diverse as The Co-operative; Sussex Partnership Foundation NHS Trust; Long-Leasehold Reform groups; Disability Rights U.K; and a Seagulls Supporters group!

Rob takes a particular interest in health, housing, planning and transport issues. He has been involved in a range of campaigns, especially in central Brighton where he has lived most of his life such as those involving the Valley Gardens scheme and controversial building developments.

Mr Heale was probably the first to participate in the public "question time" which was introduced by Liberal Democrat Councillors on Brighton Council in the late 1980s. The question was about using empty properties and making use of these for affordable housing. He also once called a taxi for Tony Blair who was attending a fringe meeting at a Community Centre where he was working!

Rob has taken a particular interest in the Council funding of the i360 development and is concerned about both the secretive nature of meetings about this issue and the losses that this project has been making. He says: "We need a Council that is open, democratic and fair. The Council should provide good quality services and consult residents properly about major plans".

"The Council needs to ensure that the basics such as street lighting, drains, pavements and road surfaces are properly maintained. It also needs to ensure that there is reasonably priced residents parking and that there is a quality rubbish and recycling collection service".

"We must ensure that the welfare of our residents is protected. Most of all, we need to give priority to housing issues because having a secure home is so important for the health and welfare of our people".
