Brighton and Hove Liberal Democrats

Parliamentary Candidate for Brighton Kemptown

Ben Thomas was born in Epsom, Surrey, but has had a colourful upbringing. Moving to France when he was younger with his mother and brother, he became fluent in French. Later they decided to move to the Dominican Republic, picking up Spanish along the way, until Ben moved back to the UK by himself to live in Brighton and attend Varndean College's International Baccalaureate.

Ben took on a part time job waitering whilst attending Varndean, progressing rapidly into restaurant management for high street brands. After a short stint as a seasonal worker in the Dominican Republic, Ben returned to help establish Sussex's first indoor trampoline park in Peacehaven. During this time, he also sought professional accreditation as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. Following the trampoline park's success, he moved into the licensed trade and is currently working on a new pub project in Kemptown.

Ben has always shown an interest in politics, being chairman of the student union in college and a speaker at various events. It wasn't until the result of the referendum that he decided he could no longer sit idly by, recognising the importance of individuals getting involved in the political landscape. Ben was nominated onto the Executive of Sutton Lib Dems, launching a successful campaign to acquire funding for conversion of an old telephone box into an AED station as well as kickstarting the campaign against the new Heathrow flight path proposals. Having recently moved back to Brighton, Ben looks forward to getting stuck in with community projects, particularly looking at tackling homelessness.
