Beatrice Bass

Parliamentary Candidate for Hove and Portslade

Her multicultural background and work experience give her an International outlook and deep understanding of Europe.

Beatrice Bass - Hove Candidate 2019-

Beatrice graduated with an MA in Linguistics and Mass Communication Studies before she pursued a career as a professional musician. She extensively toured the UK, continental Europe, USA, Australia and Asia as a bass guitarist and played radio and recording sessions for indie rock, pop and blues artists. Lovers of 80s indie rock might remember her gritty overdriven bass lines performed for The Wedding Present. Beatrice is a career changer who recently added a law degree to her education. She currently works in dispute resolution with focus on commercial law and IP rights and will shortly start her training to become a solicitor.

Beatrice has lived in Hove for 10 years and has actively promoted Lib Dem values as the chair of the Brighton and Hove Campaigns Committee. She passionately campaigns for a People's Vote on the Brexit deal with the option to remain in the EU at the local party's regular EU street stalls and has been a participant at national anti-Brexit marches and Brexit related events. The fight for affordable housing in Brighton and Hove is another issue at the heart of her local campaign work.

Beatrice is a member of the Lib Dems in Business group and is keen to boost collaboration between businesses, the public sector and research. Britain can be proud of its entrepreneurial culture and benefits from a legal framework that enables companies to be set up very easily. However more investment is needed to help new businesses grow and Beatrice advocates more active government support for start-ups and SMEs.

As a former musician, Beatrice wants to give a voice to the creative industry which is currently under-represented in Parliament. The principle of free movement of people and the right to provide services in the EU27 is vital for performing artists - visa requirements or other access restrictions would harm the UK music industry and hinder up-and-coming bands from touring. Music venue closures and ticket touting are further threats that need to be addressed. The vibrant gig scene make Hove an exciting place to be for many artists. Beatrice will give Hove a liberal voice for a liberal city!
