Brighton Kemptown MP under fire for alleged leak

April 15, 2020 12:54 PM

Brighton & Hove Lib Dems are appalled by the reports of Brighton Kemptown MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle being alleged to have shared a link to an unredacted leaked report that is said to divulge confidential details of complainants of antisemitism, including those of minors. Russell-Moyle is also a signatory to a call from the Socialist Campaigns Group for the report to be released in full by the Labour Party.

Not only is releasing such information into the public domain a potentially serious breach of GDPR protocols, it creates a very real personal risk to those young Jewish members and staffers whose details are included in the report. A breach of this nature, if proven, must surely call both his judgement and his position as a shadow minister into serious question.

Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Brighton Kemptown Ben Thomas, who stood against Mr Russell-Moyle in the 2019 general election (both pictured below at a hustings event), said:

"At a time when constituents are far more concerned about the issues they are facing as a result of the current national coronavirus crisis, I fail to understand why he is obsessing over the Labour Party's own internal battles with zero regard to the confidentiality and data of those named in the report. Our hospitals are struggling, our nation is at an economic standstill. We need to crack on with holding this government to account on its woefully poor handling on the PPE situations and why we are letting down care homes across our city."
